Dear Friends,

Unfortunately the crisis in Northern Uganda is not a unique situation. It has happened in many parts of the world time and time again while other nations turn a blind eye. It is remarkable to me the extent to which this issue is ignored by international media while other stories in more politically relevant countries (i.e. the Middle East) are consistently covered in our daily news. It is a humanitarian crisis unlike any other that I am aware of in our world today – abductions of children to serve as sex slaves and fighters, murders, mutilations, displacement of hundreds of thousands into camps, etc. The UN has intervened in this conflict which has slowed the violence to an extent, but much more needs to be done.

We are so lucky to live in a country where we do not have to worry about our safety on a daily basis. We are blessed with a democracy, a strong economic structure and a high quality of life, yet we are so bogged down by the dilemmas of everyday life that we ignore what is happening in the world around us. The longer we hold onto that mentality, the longer our spirit fades away. We are all humans, and irrespective of where we were born, we each have a right to live in peace and we all have a responsibility to follow our own moral compasses. Whether you are in a position to give a dollar or a hundred dollars to this cause, the help is appreciated. And if you can spread the word to friends and family to help us bring awareness to this issue, that is even better still.

God Bless.
